The role of Technology in COVID-19 pandemic 

Corona virus(COVID-19)  is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered Corona virus. It will spread over the people through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Therefore, the best way to prevent from corona virus is maintaining the social distance. 

Number of countries and cities had to be locked down since the Corona virus spread rapidly all over the world. In this lock down situation, people had to face many issues related to the studies and careers. Then the technology has become the main solution for these problems. 

In the 21st century, world has become a global village with the rapid development of the technology. People use developed technical equipment and applications to communicate with each other. Therefore, at present it is possible to communicate with people conveniently and more lively. According to this, in 2020 we are able to use this technology in effective manner. 

One of the main sector that affected from Corona virus is education. Students are unable to study in classrooms as traditional school lessons or lectures. Therefore, online education platforms become very famous. In Sri Lanka, we do not use online lecturing systems and education system very often but in this pandemic situation we are using it regularly as we have no other choice. The 'Zoom' online platform is the most popular platform for online lectures. Moreover, many students are more likely to expand their knowledge and they tend to follow online courses. Coursera and edX is popular among student these days hence they can follow free courses using these websites. Although this pandemic situation is bit harsh, many students have been able to spend this lock down period effectively while enhancing their knowledge and educational qualifications. Accordingly, if the technology had not developed to this level, we will not be able to spend this quarantine period effectively.

 

 

Another main field that was impaired by Corona virus is, area of employment. Although, people could not attend work and engage in their professions physically, they had to work and earn money to stop the downfall of economy. Therefore, many companies tried on work from home system. Online meeting platforms, websites and many other technical components are used to increase the effectiveness of their work. Moreover, many people have paid their attention towards online earning methods. Therefore, as individuals and as companies, people have been able to engage in their professional work with the development of the technology.

 

On the other hand, the development of the technology resulted in minimizing the rapid spread of Corona virus. Doctors have been able to identify the Covid-19 patients easily with the modern technology. In the 21st century, we can see a huge improvement in the medical sector too. Therefore, they have been able to conduct PCR tests with higher accuracy on suspicious people and recognize Corona patients. Moreover, they use modern technology to do the treatments to the Corona patients. Accordingly, we have been able to combine technology with medical concepts and knowledge on the field to reduce the the number of Covid-19 patients. 

Accordingly, it is obvious that the technology plays a major role in Covid-19 pandemic situation. If there is no technology we will not be able to engage in our studies and careers for a long period of time. Moreover, it would be difficult to control the spreading of the virus and it would have resulted in higher rate of Corona deaths than reported. Therefore, the development of technology is essential.
